Fall is right around the corner, which means sweater weather, warm drinks, and the perfect excuse to knit yourself a scarf! This project is beginner-friendly and uses only one stitch, the garter stitch, so it’s perfect for new knitters!

Supplies
Yarn: 4-5 skeins of yarn for 5mm needles (I used I Love This Cotton! from Hobby Lobby)
Needles: 5mm needles
Scissors
Darning needle
Gauge
4 stitches = 1 inch
Garter Stitch
The Garter stitch is made by repeating the knit stitch in every row. No purling required!
Directions
Cast on 66 stitches. (If you want a wider scarf, cast on more stitches. For a narrower one, cast on fewer stitches.)
Knit every row. At the end of each row, turn your work.
Continue until the scarf measures 68 inches. (Or whatever length feels right to you!)
Bind off when you reach your desired length.
Cut the yarn, leaving a 4-6 inch tail.
Use your darning needle to weave in the ends.
Finishing
Block in cold water and lay flat to dry.
Ta-da! Your fabulous hand-knit scarf is complete! Whether you keep it for yourself or gift it to a friend, you can now proudly say, "I made this!"
